Your Biggest Dental Implant Questions Answered by Our Tustin Dentist
Dental implants are becoming more popular by the day. This tooth replacement is made from a durable material and inserted on top of a titanium screw-like object placed into the jaw bone. The procedure offers minimal discomfort and looks like a real tooth within just a few months. Here are some of the most common dental implant questions and their answers.
What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
There are many reasons to consider dental implants. They:
• function and look like your natural teeth
• are a permanent solution to your missing teeth
• can be maintained with regular checkups at our office
• decrease the chance of bone loss, tooth movement, tooth loss and periodontal disease
• replace the need for partial or full dentures
• don’t damage the teeth next to the missing tooth like with a bridge
Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?
With all the newest technology surrounding dental implants, most people qualify as a candidate. There are some exceptions if you have heart disease, osteoporosis, bone loss or chronic illnesses.
What does the Dental Implant Procedure Involve?
The typical procedure takes three or four visits. The first one consists of an x-ray and an impression of the area. Then, a temporary prosthesis covers the region.
On the second visit, Dr. Valdez gives local anesthesia to the area. Then, a minor incision is made and the implant is put into the jaw bone. We use sutures to close the area and you might feel some discomfort for a few days.
About three months later, the porcelain crown is placed on the implant.
How Much Does a Dental Implant Cost?
It depends on where the implant goes and how much additional work needs to be done before the implantation. Contact Dr. Valdez for a consultation and they’ll be able to provide a more accurate estimate.
How Long does a Dental Implant Last?
If you take care of the implant with a good oral hygiene routine, you can expect it to last 30 years through the rest of your life.
